Q: What CAD systems does CAD/CAM R2V use?

A: We are fluent in most CAD systems, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, Solid Works, Esri, Catia, Unigraphics NX and others. We use our two registered trademarks CAD Perfect® & Cad Perfect CAD conversions® to describe our raster to vector conversion process. CAD Perfect® & Cad Perfect CAD conversions® provide perfect CAD drawings with real lines, arcs, circles and text as text, produced at minimum with 3-7 layers (levels) and colors. As per your choice we use your in-house layering scheme or any scheme suitable for raster to vector that you designate at no extra charge. All converted files are delivered in your native CAD file format.

Q: Do you convert all types of engineering drawings?

A: Yes. It’s important to understand that we are not an engineering company. We can’t create a drawing, but if it’s on paper, even if it’s hand drawn, we can recreate, fix or remove.

Q: What kind of experience do you have in CAD conversion?

A: CAD/CAM R2V has 23 years of experience, serving all types of customers in private industry and government. For instance, we recently completed a $1.6 m DOD project in less than ½ the time required. We can convert anything from house plans all the way to Boeing 747.8 and 767. We can convert full PI&D (piping drawings) including light or heavy 3D solid modelling.

Q: What standards do you follow?

A: We follow AIA layering standards for architectural drawings. By default we use half dozen layers. We will also use your layering standards, if you prefer

Q: Are you only into 2D conversion?

A: No. We do all types of CAD conversions, including not only 2D, but also 3D, solid modelling, including light and heavy solids.

Q: What is your ETA for completing the job?

  • 1-4 files — 48/72 hours
  • 5-10 files — after we do the first couple of files, then we can do 2-4 files each day until the project is done. 10 files = 4-5 days
  • 11-20 files — the first couple of files are done in 48 hours, then 2-4 files each day until project is done. 20 files = 7-9 days
  • 21-50 files — again the first couple of files are done in 48 hours, then 2-4 files each day until project is done. 50 files = 20 days

Q: Do you follow any quality standards?

A: Depending upon the requirements, we have one or two levels of QC. Quality Control is always done by a different draftsperson from the one who did the job. It is always a draftsperson supervisor who does the QC.

Q: What type of input raster images you prefer?

A: Any—tiffs, jpegs, pdfs, virtually any file format. In general grayscales look better than bi-tonal.

Q: Do you use conversion software for conversion?

A: For parts of the drawing, we may. It really depends upon the drawing. Each drawing is unique. We have 23 years of custom parts and assemblies that we have created. Sometimes it’s quicker to drop a door in, for example than to recreate it. Sometimes r2v software can be of assistance. The important thing to know is that for the final product all work is designed as if you or I had redrawn it by hand...lines are lines, arcs are arcs, circles are circles, text is text, etc. You can go to the edit command in AutoCad & even edit text if you chose to. CAD/CAM R2V takes pride in our Cad Perfect Conversions™.

Q: What accuracy you usually deliver?

A: Our accuracy is good to within the line on the sheet of paper, with two additional accuracy options: (1) we can physically, manually go in and fix any dimensions; and/or, (2) we can restore to better than the original. Our accuracy is fine enough that we can go all the way into aerospace accuracy requirements of +/- .005” over any 5” grid over a full J-size drawing. In general our Cad Perfect Conversions™ are always more accurate than the original.

Q: How do you charge?

A: In a general sense, fees are based on time. The best way is to send us a sample & get a quote. We try to do a fixed rate per drawing, once we see the types of drawings that you have... that way you can budget. Generally, we’ll give you a price for “easy drawings”, and “hard drawings”, based on the samples you’ve provided.

Q: Is there a minimum number of drawings to start with?

A: No.
